Safeguarding Women Workers : Haryana Government' Night Shift Regulations Explained

The Haryana government has issued a revised notification outlining the conditions for factories seeking exemptions to employ women during night shifts (between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM). These revisions prioritize the safety and well-being of women workers.

Key Highlights:

  • Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harassment: Factories must strictly adhere to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, ensuring a safe working environment free from harassment.

  • Internal Committee (IC) Mandatory: Every factory must establish an Internal Committee to investigate complaints of sexual harassment as per the law.

  • Enhanced Security Measures: Proper lighting, CCTV cameras, and well-trained security guards (including female guards) are mandatory inside and outside the factory premises. Safe transportation with responsible drivers, communication channels, and tracking systems is also required for women workers.

  • Women Empowerment: Supervisors or shift-in-charges for women working night shifts must be women. Additionally, women workers will have a monthly meeting with the factory management to address grievances.

  • Medical Support and Awareness Programs: Factories must provide appropriate medical facilities with a doctor or female nurse during night shifts. Additionally, workshops and awareness programs will be organized to educate women workers about their rights and safety measures.
